About the event
Americans throw away a garbage truck's worth of clothes every second, often because we don't know how to repair them as our parents and grandparents did.
Join us for a unique workshop that combines the traditional Japanese art of Sashiko mending with mindfulness practices. In this hands-on class, you'll learn the fundamentals of Sashiko, an intricate stitching technique that not only repairs fabric but also transforms it into a beautiful work of art.
This workshop is perfect for both those with some sewing experience and beginners. Learn how to sew on a button, to fix the hem of your pants or skirt, and to stitch up a rip in a seam. You will receive practical experience and a mending kit of your very own. If you bring one of your own garments needing repair, our mentor Alice will give you advice on how best to do that.
